179 Head - Suckler Cow Sale - Saturday 13 May

Auctioneer Ben Baggott Reports :- "Two suckler cow herds were disposed of on Saturday at Market Drayton Market with a fantastic crowd in attendance. First saw the sale on behalf of Mr J. Conneally of Runway Farm — his herd of Pure and Pedigree Blonde cows were an absolute credit to him and they were well rewarded. Topping his sale was Lot Sixteen a Blonde Cow (2013) with a bull calf at foot (July 2016) and p'd fourteen weeks in calf at £2,400. Next was a call of £2,100 for Lot Fourteen a Blonde cow (2008) with a March born calf at foot.  In the main the cows and calves  traded at £1,400 to £1,800 and the in calf cows at £1,200 to £1,400. The herds stock bull changed hands at £2,000 (Pedigree 2011 born). The young stock sold extremely well with the young bulls ten to eleven months  selling at £1,010 and £1,130. The heifer of the same age at £1,000 to £1,145.

Part Two of the sale was the dispersal on behalf of Mr M.D. Berrisford of Red Hall Farm. His herd was looking particularly well and some young calvers at foot all finding new homes very easily. Top of the sale was £2,400 for Lot 117 a Pedigree Charolais cow (£2,010) with her steer calf at foot. Next was lot 147 an in calf British Blue cow (2011 Born) at £2,300. A further seven lots sold for in excess of £2,000 just showing the level of demand and the quality of Mick’s herd. The farms stock bull a Pedigree British Blue (three years old) changed hands after fierce bidding at £4,000. Only a handful of young stock on offer from this home topped at £1,410 for a Pedigree Charolais heifer (sixteen months)".
